MORE NOTES FROM FRIDAY

MULAN NOTES 07-22-16

WRITTEN IN STONE –

· Kendall – don’t smile when you enter and sing as a Father – the Fathers should be serious and authoritative, the “emperor of the family”.

· Katelyn – look over your shoulder to the audience and smile when you enter as a Mother

· SL circle – much better!

· Catherine, Kendall, John – stay focused during this number. You were looking around and it is distracting.

Pg. 25-26 – Hannah look out more when saying lines on crosses with Ancestors.

Pg. 28 – Hannah – don’t forget to crow from behind the screen.

HONOR TO US ALL (PT. 1)

Pg. 29 – Drew- you were late with you solo “Ancestors, help this girl…”

HONOR TO US ALL (PT. 2)

Pg. 33 – Shelby – All Ancestors sing here with everyone on “We all must serve our emperor…”

Pg. 35 – Claudia – turn face up and out and PROJECT your voice to the back of the theatre on your solo and lines in this number

Haley – woodblock strikes are better, but hit the block harder. Don’t be afraid to hit it loudly and deliberately. That is what makes it funny.

Pg. 39 – Ancestors – don’t forget Kate has a solo on “She will never be a perfect bride”

Pg. 39- Hannah come DS more to deliver line “Poor kid…” and bigger exit. The script says you SLINK OFF. How would you slink?

REFLECTION –

Pg. 41 – Drew – I cannot hear this line over the music. Turn your face up and out and see the blossoms at the back of the theatre. PROJECT your voice all the way to the back.

· Drew – everything you say should be as loud as “LEAVE ME ALONE, CHILD”.

Pg. 45 – Autumn – Use more breath support on long note “Free…” Let vibrato come into your tone. – I would like to work on this with you.

Pg. 51 – Hannah – project “ALL…” more loudly – I would like to work on this with you.

Pg. 52 – Hannah – great false exit when you see the Huns! Funny!

Pg. 52-Ethan – Much better! Quiet bad guy works for Shan-Yu – think Professor Snape from the Harry Potter movies. Thank you for not growling!

Huns – work on developing your exits – they are all the same (running and yelling)

KEEP EM GUESSIN (PART 1)

· Pg. 57 – Hannah – sounds like you’re saying “freel”

· Cast – everyone needs big faces, smiles, and moving mouths on this number!!! Have fun! Lillian, Jackson, Megann – it looks like you are not always singing during this song.

KEEP EM GUESSIN (PART 2)

· We need EVERYONE singing!!

· Mallorie- GREAT EXIT after this song!

pg. 62 – Yao – better, but still need to project more – line is “Mr. Po and Mr. Tential”

MAKE A MAN/LESSON NO. 1

· EVERYONE needs to be singing in this number! Mya, Elizabeth, Jackson, John, Brailyn – most of the time, you are singing, but I saw you drop or forget words as I was watching you.

· Devin – PROJECT solos more

· We need to work on this one.

A GIRL WORTH FIGHTING FOR

· EVERYONE needs to be singing this number! If you are not sure of the words, review with your track!!

· Dylan – you were late on “I want her paler than the moon…”

· Guys on falsetto – LOUDER!!

· We need to work on this one.

Pg. 79 – Elizabeth – do not laugh. This is a very serious scene.

WRITTEN IN STONE/REFLECTION (REPRISE)

· Pg. 85 – Ancestors – good entrance on “See the pretty little China doll..”!! Yay!

· Autumn – I would like to work with you again on this number – Please practice this with the voice track to review words and pitches.

Pg. 88 – Zoe says line, then music starts. Zoe – bigger reaction to your mixed up words. I am seeing you react, but you could do more.
