MULAN NOTES – 07/20/16

ANCESTORS – Good vocal choices for your characters!  Please work to project every line – you must be heard over the music.

WRITTEN IN STONE – work on SL circle – let everyone in!

Pg. 28 – Hannah – you do the rooster crow from behind the screen.

Pg. 29 – FA ZHOU – You missed your solo “Ancestors help this girl…”

HONOR TO US ALL – This number sounds great, but needs more volume with the BEAUTIFUL singing!  Some of you need to review words on pg. 36 of this number – “Ancestors help this girl…” I saw some of you not singing or looking lost – you probably know who you are. :)

Pg. 32- MULAN – say “Ouch is beauty supposed to hurt?”  sooner.  That is a really quick music cue.

Haley – hit woodblock with same number as strikes.

CAST – react to Mulan and the Matchmaker – some of you are just watching the action and not responding to it.

Pg. 39 – HONG – HONOR TO US ALL (REPRISE) – You missed your solo “Little one, stand aside..”

Hannah – work on your exit on pg. 40 – it looked like Hannah walking away, not Mushu exiting.

REFLECTION – Autumn – you were looking off towards stage right while you were singing.  Please shift your focus out toward the audience and let your arms be relaxed – you can use them to be expressive, but please don’t grab your wrist/arm with your hand.

Pg. 40 – REFLECTION – ANCESTORS and FAMILY – you need to PROJECT more – I could not hear you clearly – Fa Zhou – I could not hear your line on pg. 41 at all.

SOLDIERS marching – March with your whole foot, not toe first.  – Autumn and Elizabeth I noticed you doing this.

Pg. 45 – Hannah – Mushu BURSTS in – Make this entrance much bigger – URGENT!

Pg. 45 – WRITTEN IN STONE REPRISE – ANCESTORS – entrance was late.  Count 4 measures, then sing.

Pgs. 50-51 – Hannah – look up to say these lines and sing this song – Don’t look at the floor.

Pg. 52- Eathan – you growled “Nothing will stop me.” Take growly-ness out of your voice.  Say a word instead of “Raah” when you exit.  Try “MARCH!”

Pg. 62 – YAO – I cannot hear you line very well – Deepen your voice a bit and aim your volume towards the back of the audience.

SOLDIERS – Review “I’ll Make a Man” words – “force of a great typhoon”, “strength of a raging fire” – I’m still hearing some singers mix those words up. – EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE SINGING ON STAGE!

Pg. 70 – Group 2 needs to sing louder.

GIRL WORTH FIGHTING FOR – Dylan – late entrance on “Paler than the moon” and “What do we want” – tempo was behind (Dylan).  – Yao and Ling need to PROJECT solos – “Na!” was late – March on the beat!!

Avalanche – timing with music.

ANCESTORS – WRITTEN IN STONE (REPRISE)/REFLECTION – pg. 85 -Entrance on “See the pretty little china doll” was late and the tempo was behind the beat.

MULAN – I would like to review WRITTEIN IN STONE (REPRISE) – pg. 87-88 with you.
